In every escape room they reveal the answers to the clues and meta-puzzle after you have “just missed.” Also in escape rooms they trickle out hints to help you stay in the game, at least until the end. But ours, well, we couldn’t really do that nor did we want to take the chance that some might not get the hints (coverage, etc.) So below is the solution: answers to the clues on the map, the “animal” puzzle and the strange ramblings of the zookeeper. They all are part of the “meta-puzzle” which brought you to the exact exit spot of the park. But first you had to find and answer the eleven orienteering questions at the monuments.
Hmmm…letters could mean numbers…
But the ZooKeeper’s babblings are the key. He said
“LATE ELM BRUNCH” – “HUMBLE CENTRAL” – “CURB LETHAL MEN”
which are all ANAGRAMS for “CALL THE NUMBER”
And you would have the final piece of the big puzzle if you solved the “Animal” puzzle:
First you had to realize that the three grids with letters and numbers, had a distinct order. The snake at the bottom helped you assemble the entire grid. When filled in properly, it looks like this:
As you can see, the vertical columns were in alphabetical or numerical order. And, if you knew your Roman Numerals, “viii” is the number 8.
So we are left with an area code of 828
CALL THE NUMBER: 828-ESCAPE-8 (828-372-2738). If you haven’t yet, give it a call. It tells you to exit the park at West 69th Street and Central Park West (a small path leads out.) We were waiting there for you.
I want to thank each of you for playing today. We are a small company and marketing new ideas is very challenging, especially in New York City. The registration numbers determine the “extras”. If we had more sign up, we would have had more exotic animals. I actually had a stilt-walker on hold. He would have been a giraffe at the Cherry Hill Fountain (A3). The essence of the game is what is important but we can’t customize if we don’t have the numbers. And we will get them.
And we will see you in the Fall when we ESCAPE from THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART (yes, I know there are really only two public doors…) But you’ll see. It will be part Escape Room, part DaVinci Adventure and part Thomas Crowne Affair. Tentative Date is NOV 5, Sunday at Noon. It will be two hours this time. Lots of clues in the art. No running of course, and the same template: uploads and downloads on your device. And more augmented reality!
Thanks again and see you in the fall. TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
